THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT AND HOW THEY APPLY TO TODAY'S CHRISTIANS.
            What are the gifts of the spirit , how many are there and do they apply in today's world? The Holy Bible which is the word of God, says " Heaven and earth will pass away but my word is forever. Does that mean we'll have the gifts when the Lord returns to set up his Kingdom here on earth?.  No  there will be no need for the gifts then, because the Gift of live and the reason for it all will be right here among us.
            The gifts were a part of daily life in the days of James, Peter and John in the new testament. This world of ours has grown so vast that with all the shoot off churches, the gifts have been sent to the back roll in many of them.
            I am not speaking bad about any churches, so don't get your hackles up.

             Corinthians 12:8-11 :
            gs
            words of wisdom;
            gs
            words of knowledge;
            gs
            faith;
            gs
            healing;
            gs
            miracle-working;
            gs
            prophecy;
            gs
            distinguishing of spirits;
            gs
            tongues;
            gs
            interpretation of tongues.
            1 Peter 4:11 :
            gs
            Prophecy as from a prophet (Gift from God.)
            service, from strength given by God
            Ephesians 4 : roles for people in the Church : apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers; for
            gs
            equipping,
            building up, and
            maturation.
            Romans 12 : attitude re gifts; gifts of
            gs
            service,
            teaching,
            exhortation,
            giving,
            leadership,
            the showing of mercy.
            Isaiah 11:1-5 : verse 2 speaks of the various things that the Spirit of the LORD gives to those it rests upon : the spirit of :
            wisdom (also James 1:5),

            understanding,
            gs
            counsel,
            gs
            strength,
            gs
            knowledge, and
            the fear of the LORD.
            gs
            According to the next two verses, also given unto such persons is

            a special force or effectiveness of words/communication (v.4b; see Rm 12 'exhortation'), and
            a gift for being just to the oppressed in an unjust world (v.4a).
            (When Paul spoke of how the warrior of God is dressed (Eph 6; 1 Th 5:8), and when he said that we walk by faith and not sight (2 Cor 5:7), he drew from this passage of Isaiah.)

            Also, some of the things Scripture describes as gifts from God are not in lists :

            James 4:6 -- grace  > Grace is a gift.
            Philippians 4:7 -- peace > Peace is a gift.
            Hebrews 4:1,9 -- rest > is a gift.
            John 10:28; Romans 6:23 -- eternal life
            Psalm 127:3 -- children > our children are spoken of in the bible as gifts
            Ezekiel 11:19 -- a new heart.

            Some of you might thing a natural talent is a gift, yes God did give you those and they are developed throughout your life. You may be a great writer, a musician, a lawyer, what ever but that isn't any of the gifts of the spirit. Take a look at Moses , Moses couldn't talk, he stuttered and had trouble speaking,  yet God charged him with a tremendous journey and gave him the gift in order to do the work.. Talent is a gift but god also will give us the gift that goes with the talent to help in the body of Christ.
            There is the gift of discernment, a natural ability to tell if someone is lying or if something is wrong.
            Healing is a gift of the spirit. Oh yes there are medical personal that heal the sick but again this is a talent. Some very famous people don't even know the Lord yet have amazing talents in the health field,
            Gifts of the spirit enable  the gifted person to serve beyond their natural abilities. Where there is a gift there's usually a natural  developed skill to go with it but not in  all cases.

            There is the gift of Healing and then there are medical personal with a developed talent to heal.
            Prophecy, is a gift, the ability to get to the truth and how to figure out when and how to share it.
            The gifts of the Spirit are supernatural gifts and when put together with ones natural ability and working with the holy Spirit inside, gives us power to serve the body of Christ in supernatural ways. Humility,  should be the center of a christian person and all glory and praise should be given to the Father, remember all the gifts are just that, gifts from him to the body  in order for us to do his work.
            "John 14:12 Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."
            Many of the gifts of the spirit are laying dormant because of growing knowledge in this fast paced world we live in and also people are falling away in droves from the real teachings of the bible. In the coming days though they will once again awaken, for the word of the Lord to be fulfilled.

            And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

            And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

            And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

            The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.

            Joel 2:28-30

            Paul lists nine different gifts of the Holy Spirit in 1 Cor. 12:4-11:

            Wisdom - 2 Pet. 1:19-21, 3:15; 2 Tim. 3:16-17
            Knowledge - 1 Cor. 13:8
            Faith - 1 Cor. 13:2
            Prophecy – 1 Cor. 12:29, 13:8; Eph. 3:5; Acts 21:9
            Distinguishing of Spirits - Acts 16:16-18
            Healings - Acts 3; 1 Cor. 12:30
            Miracles - Acts 20:9-11; Acts 28:3-6
            Tongues (different languages) - Acts 2:7-8; 1 Cor. 12:27-30; 1 Cor. 14:13-28
            Interpretation of Tongues - 1 Cor. 14:13-28

            Are the gifts for the belivers today? yes and again I say Yes!!!
            Open up your hearts and spirit to the teaching of the word of God, the bible will lead you into all truths.

            Psalm 31 l “God, you are my refuge and defense; guide me and lead me as you have promised.  Keep me safe from the trap that has been set for me; shelter me from danger.  I place myself in your care.  You will save me, Lord; you are a faithful God.”
            Satan, has always from the very beginning, set traps for the believers but the promise of God is,
            "If the Lord delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;
            though he stumble, he will not fall,
            for the Lord upholds him with his hand." [Psalm 37:23-24]

            Heavenly Father,
            we thank you for your Holy Spirit, that you didn't leave us in this world to fumble around on our own but
            gave us the  Holy Spirit as our teacher. We pray dear Lord for tender hearts to receive that teaching and to help in anyway we can to build up the body of Christ. Give us  supernatural strength Father,  that we might fight the good fight of faith and run the race that you have set before us. Help us never to be a stumbling block in the path of other christians but bring us into your perfect will.. being aways mindful ,that you are the giver and the taker, nothing we do as christians is through us alone but through your mighty power. We ask in the name of your son Jesus Christ to him goes honor and praise, Amen.

            "Waste of power is a tragedy. God does not waste the great power of his Spirit on those who want it simply for their own sake, to be more holy, or good, or gifted. His great task is to carry on the work for which Jesus sacrificed his throne and his life--the redemption of fallen humanity."

            We believe in the Trinity of the Godhead.
            We believe in the creation of man by the direct act of God.
            We believe in the fall of man and his need for redemption.
            We believe in the deity, the incarnation and virgin birth of our Lord and Savior,
            Jesus Christ.
            We believe in His vicarious atonement for the sins of mankind by the shedding of
            His blood on the Cross.
            We believe in the resurrection of His body from the tomb.
            We believe in His ascension to heaven.
            We believe in His personal, imminent return.
            We believe in the deity of the Holy Spirit.
            We believe in justification of the believer by grace through faith.
            We believe in a literal Devil, who is our adversary.
            We believe in a literal heaven for the redeemed and a literal hell for the lost.
            We believe in the infallible rule of interpretation of Scripture to be Scripture itself.
            We believe in the requirement of implicit obedience to the expressed
            commands of Christ as the standard by which He will judge our love for Him.
